| Sports Medicine Fellowship Faculty
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) – Fairfax Family Practice (FFPC) is seeking to add a Faculty Member for its Sports Medicine Fellowship, who will also participate as clinical faculty for the Family Medicine Residency. VCU-FFPC is a prestigious, well-established 25-physician private- practice group with large academic training programs located in suburban Fairfax, Virginia. This position is full-time, for a physician who is board-certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine. This position entails a strong commitment to teaching, educational scholarship, and clinical care. Prior academic faculty experience is preferred.
Duties include: - Attending physician for medical students, family medicine interns and residents, and sports medicine fellows in office, walk-in clinic, athletic training room, and in-patient hospital settings. - Participation in regular faculty meetings, resident and fellow evaluation meetings, and didactic conferences in the Family Medicine Center and Sports Medicine Clinic. - Actively participate in curriculum development and program management of the Sports Medicine Fellowship. - Participate in learner evaluation, competency assessment, and program evaluation. - Scholarly projects such as research, conference presentations, and publications. - Participate in didactic lectures, practical workshops, and other scholarly opportunities in our sports medicine fellowship consortium, the National Capital Sports Medicine Consortium. - Provide direct patient care in a variety of locations, to include, but not limited to: FFPC Family Medicine Center, Sports Medicine Clinic, and Comprehensive Concussion Center; George Mason University Athletic Training Room Clinic; Inova Fairfax Hospital; Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. - Full-spectrum sports medicine including acute injuries, overuse injuries, arthritis management, concussion management, fracture management, population management, injections, regenerative medicine, and musculoskeletal & neuromuscular ultrasonography. - Broad family medicine including acute illnesses, wellness exams, pediatrics, adult medicine, geriatrics, inpatient medicine, chronic disease management, population management, office procedures, and point-of-care ultrasonography.
Responsibilities - Percent of Time (Approximate): - Patient care with and without learners in an ambulatory setting 70%—90%. - Educational activities 5%—20%. - Scholarship/research and other activities 5%—10%.
The FFPC Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is a founding program of the National Capital Sports Medicine Consortium (NCSMC). NCSMC is currently made up of 4 fellowship programs in the greater Washington, DC Metro Area. These include the tri-service military program based out of USU and Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital, as well as 3 civilian programs: VCU - Fairfax Family Practice (Family Medicine based), MedStar - National Rehabilitation Hospital (PM&R based), and MedStar – Georgetown /Washington Hospital Center (Emergency Medicine based). Together, we have 10-12 fellows each year, nearly two dozen full-time sports medicine faculty, and a myriad of adjunct supportive faculty.

Our faculty and fellows come from all primary care sports medicine specialties and share their experiences in a wide range of clinical and didactic settings. Together we cover approximately 20 high schools, 10 colleges, and 10 professional teams as well as several road races / marathons, Special Olympics, Warrior Games (military para-olympics), ski clinics, and other sports events. |
