Full Time Physician Assistant – Dr. Scott Rodeo Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Dr. Scott Rodeo is a clinician-scientist at Hospital for Special Surgery, with appointments in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery (Sports Medicine Service) and the Research Department (Orthopaedic Soft Tissue Research Program). He is Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Co-Chief Emeritus of the Sports Medicine Service at Hospital for Special Surgery. He specializes in sports medicine injuries of the knee, shoulder, ankle, and elbow. He also performs arthritis surgery of the knee and shoulder, including joint replacement surgery. He has specific expertise in complex knee reconstruction (including meniscus transplantation, cartilage resurfacing, osteotomy, and ligament reconstruction), treatment of shoulder instability, and rotator cuff tendon repair. His research focuses on the basic biology of tendon and ligament healing, meniscal allograft transplantation, and rotator cuff repair. The practice provides care for recreational, collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes. A unique opportunity exists for an experienced PA to support Dr. Rodeo's outpatient practice at the NYC campus of HSS. Duties will include assisting with patient evaluations, treatments (surgical and non-surgical), and providing patient/family education. In this highly interactive role, you will work closely with patients and families in contributing to an outstanding patient experience. You will also interact with athletic trainers and physical therapists for collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletic programs.
Perform complete and accurate history and physicals
Conduct outpatient evaluation, treatment, and follow-up of surgical patients as directed by the supervising physician
Function as First Assist.
Provide post-operative and discharge education to patients and family members with regards to safety issues when applicable (e.g., medication, post-operative precautions, use of equipment, etc.).
Through and effective communication skills
Legally document patient progress
Utilize the computerized order communication system, including transcription of medical orders, retrieval of test results and documentation of results.
Maintain accurate and detailed history and physical documentation and all other written reports.
Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Promote cooperation through teamwork.
Minimum 3 years PA experience with concentration in orthopedics - preferably sports.
Surgical experience including functioning as First Assist in OR
Experience working in fast-paced, high touch-high tech environment
Outstanding patient/family follow-up and interaction
Graduation from an accredited PA program
Current NY licensure, BLS/ACLS certification and NCCPA board certification are required
The candidate must have current Infection Control Certification and have completed a child abuse recognition course
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated multidisciplinary collaboration
