Sports Medicine Physician (Director of Sports Medicine/Team Physician)

Georgetown University is the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit University with nearly 18,000 undergraduate and graduate students.  The Student Health Center is a Department of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital serving the students of Georgetown University. Our physicians provide high quality urgent and primary care to our students in support of the core mission of cura personalis—caring for the whole person.  Georgetown University Athletics is an NCAA Division 1 athletics program with over 700 athletes and 26 varsity sports. 

This position is as an embedded primary care physician dedicated to the health and wellness of student athletes. This is a full-time position with 60/40 split between primary care in athletics and sports medicine for the general student population at the Student Health Center. 

The incumbent will be a MedStar employee and credentialed as clinical staff of the MedStar Georgetown Student Health Center. The position reports to the Medical Director of the MedStar Georgetown Student Health Center, a department of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

This job has two primary components, to serve as primary care provider for student athletes at Georgetown University and to serve as a sports medicine consultant within the student health center. 

60% of time will be allotted to work with Georgetown University Athletics Department. This will include providing medical care for student athletes, game coverage, serving as the first call for all athletic trainers providing care for student athletes and collaborating with other University staff in overseeing the health and wellness of student athletes. 

40% of time will be spent at the Student Health Center as a consultant for musculoskeletal, concussion and other sports medicine needs of the general student population. Additionally providing physician oversight of athletic training and health policies for the Club Sports program within the Division of Student Affairs.
