About Boston Children’s Hospital
The Female Athlete Program cares for and champions girls and women in sport with interdisciplinary clinical care and cutting-edge research. Our definition of “female” non-exhaustively includes transgender females as well as those assigned female at birth, irrespective of their current gender identify or expression. We support the increased participation, retention, wellbeing, and performance of all female athletes, including LGBTA+, black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), and para-athletes. We are a part of the Division of Sports Medicine at BCH and are an Innovation Hub for the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance. We are for athletes of all ages and experience, from professionals to novices, to help them attain health at the top of their game. We take a comprehensive approach to diagnosing, treating, and managing sports injury and recovery in female athletes. We assess and support the whole athlete – exercise habits, hormone balance, nutritional needs – to ensure optimal health and peak performance. Our multidisciplinary team consists of experts in sports medicine who understand the importance of sports in an athlete’s life. Many of us played competitive sports in high school, and beyond, and competed at national and international levels. We respect the strength and determination of female athletes and work with our patients to help them reach their athletic and human potential.
