Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) and The University of Oregon (UO) are looking for candidates for our non-ACGME accredited second year Sports Medicine fellowship for the fall of 2026.   The program is in its 5th year.  We have successfully graduated three fellows (with two of the three obtaining jobs as Division 1 team physicians) and currently have one fellow who will graduate July 2026.    The fellow spends their entire year in Eugene – working exclusively in the athletic department with student athletes under the direction of Dr. Maggie Doe, head team physician for UO in partnership with OHSU in Portland, Oregon.  

This fellowship is open to any current fellow or graduated fellow who has completed, or is on schedule to complete an ACGME fellowship by July 2026.  We accept applications from anywhere in the country (ie not a closed second year fellowship).  This program is one of the few second year fellowships in the country – and the goals are to continue to enhance the candidates skills in athletic medicine, the management of a division 1 NCAA athletic medicine program, and enhance diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound skills.

About Oregon Health & Sciences University

The University of Oregon (UO) campus is in Eugene, Oregon which is 100 miles south of Portland, Oregon – where OHSU campus is located. This program is housed under the Department of Family Medicine at OHSU which is consistently ranked as one of the best Family Medicine departments and residency training sites in the country. OHSU maintains a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship with two fellows per year and facilitates the UO OHSU fellowship. The current sports fellowship has a strong presence with AMSSM, hosts national CME ultrasound courses and is affiliated with Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College. The two fellowship spots in Portland are ACGME accredited fellowship spots – which participate ...thru the NRMP fellowship match program. The UO campus has two faculty staff physicians and numerous community physicians involved in the care of the student-athletes; however, there are no learners on campus – other than our Sports Fellow. The fellowship spot will be a second-year fellowship spot – meaning we only accept/consider applicants who are currently in a Sports Fellowship or have completed an ACGME Sports Medicine Fellowship. The fellowship program will not be operated under the ACGME or NRMP. The fellowship will be integrated with the OHSU fellowship – taking advantage of the numerous opportunities available there – including didactics, cadaver labs, library services, clinical teaching and collaborating with OHSU Sports Medicine faculty and fellows. In Eugene, the fellow will be under the supervision of the Head of Athletic Medicine Dr. Maggie Doe.
